“It’s Your Time!”

By Dr. Mary Campagnolo, MSNJ President

I hope everyone had a wonderful mother’s day celebration yesterday.  Yesterday was also the start of National Women’s Health Week coordinated by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office on Women’s Health, and today is National Women’s Check-Up Day. This year’s theme is “It’s Your Time” and this week-long observance was designed to promote women’s health while empowering us to make our health a top priority. Women across the nation are being encouraged to take steps to improve their physical and mental health and lower their risks of certain diseases such as:

  • Visit a health care professional to receive regular checkups and preventive screenings.
  • Get active.
  • Eat healthy.
  • Pay attention to mental health, including getting enough sleep and managing stress.
  • Avoid unhealthy behaviors, such as smoking and not wearing a seat belt or bicycle helmet
  • Remember to take care of your smile, and get regular dental checkups. Don’t forget to take care of your eyes and feet, especially if you have diabetes.
  • Get enough sleep every night, to feel energetic throughout each day.

I also wanted to make you aware of two free health websites that you can make available to your patients which are offered by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.  These websites cover over 800 topics and provide reliable, information on women’s and girl’s health:
